Ann Kiernan is an Irish illustrator based in Berlin. She works out of her studio located in the Intelligence Department Studios in the former building of the GDR’s operational and technical sector in Berlin-Alt-Hohenschönhausen.

Ann has completed a masters in Illustration and graduated from the University of Hertfortshire, UK. She also holds a degree in classical animation from the Irish School of Animation, Dublin, Ireland.

Ann’s professional work mainly uses bold and energetic inks. Using brush on paper, the drive of the strokes captures the energy used to create the illustrations, evoking a visceral connection to the image. This is almost in complete contrast to her self-initiated projects where she develops quirky, contorted compositions disregarding proportions or perspective. She sees this as a perfect symbiosis where the goal is to ignite her own inspiration and drive the creativity process forward.

Ann has been shortlisted in the CA Illustration 2020 Awards editorial category and selected for the Social Art Award Book 2019. She was shortlisted in the editorial category for the World Illustration Awards in 2018 & highly commended in the Cheltenham Illustration Awards 2018.
